Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman heading to Sumerduck Dragway
(3-24-2011) FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman will make their first stop of the 2011 racing season April 2 2011 at Sumerduck Dragway.
The SOTS have been racing at ''THE DUCK" for over 5 years now. "We have had alot of fun and enjoyed ourselves," said Board member Greg Bruce.
Sumerduck Dragway is located just off US. 17 in Sumerduck, VA. "The track owners, Mike & Joy Anderson have made it one of the best in the area," said Bruce. The SOTS would like to thank them for all of their support since we got started. Mike, a true bracket racer at heart, is also a member of the SOTS, where he races his 2002 Rick Jones Cavalier powered by Pat Musi Racing Engines.
The SOTS are a racing club with a 5.80 or quicker index. At the present time they are 50 members strong and growing every day. They are also racing at Colonial Beach Dragway, Richmond Dragway, and Virginia Motorsports Park. The SOTS consist of Club President Gary Pitts, Board Members Phil Stewart, Stacy Johnson, Wells Waugh & Greg Bruce.
Last Year Jerry Williams, a longtime member of the SOTS, won the points Championship and said he will be defending is Crown with everything he has this year to repeat as SOTS Champion!

(4-6-2011) COLONIAL BEACH, VA – The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman are headed to Colonial Beach Dragway for its Spring Opener, April 16th and 17th.
With over 60 members the SOTS is quickly becoming the biggest, fastest bracket racers organization in the Mid-Atlantic Area. The SOTS was started over 5 years ago with a mission of having somewhere for bracket racers to race at a little faster program, than just a regular bracket race. Since its inception the SOTS has grown, with new members signing up everyday.
“We have members from all over the Mid-Atlantic Area,” said board member Stacy Johnson. The Spring Opener is going to have its own Quick 32 on Saturday April 16, and then on Sunday April 17, The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman invade the track.
Last year’s SOTS Champion Jerry Williams is on a mission this year again to keep his crown. With the 2007 & 2009 Champion Wells Waugh hot on his heels, it’s going to be tough to keep. The 2008 SOTS Champion will be gunning for the SOTS Championship, with a new bullet in his S-10; SOTS racers should take notice, “We plan on knocking them down one at a time,” said Club President Gary Pitts.
Colonial Beach has been involved with the SOTS from its inception. We really enjoy and appreciate what they have done for us. The facility known as WHERE THE BITE IS ALWAYS RIGHT!! Is inviting all racers to come on down to its Spring Opener April 16-17 at Colonial Beach Dragway.
Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman head to Richmond Dragway
(4-23-2011) SANDSTON, VA – Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman is on the third stop of their racing season, May 7, 2011at the Richmond Dragway. After having 35 cars at Colonial Beach Dragway for their opening season race, one can only imagine how many*cars will be at Richmond.
Rapidly growing into the premier fastest bracket racing program, the SOTS had 17 cars in the 4 second zone! “That speaks volumes for our organization!” said Board Member Stacy Johnson. They are expecting at least 40-45 cars at Richmond Dragway on Saturday May 7th.
The SOTS is a group of racers that have been racing together for over 5 years, and are growing every day. They invite any racer that wants to have fun, meet some good racers, and enjoy a program that's a little bit faster than a regular bracket race, to come out and join them!
Track Owner Johnny Davis is just one of the many good track owners that have helped build the SOTS to what it is today. “We always look forward to racing at his facility and want to thank Johnny Davis and the staff at Richmond Dragway for providing a great racing surface, plenty of parking and a great atmosphere for all of us,” said Club President Gary Pitts.

(6-28-2011) FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman Organization has had a stellar racing year so far. With amazing car counts at all of the races they have put on in this year.
For instance over 30 cars at Virginia Motorsports Park, the organization's first race ever held there. On Saturday before the VMP race -30 cars again at Sumerduck Dragway; at Colonial Beach Dragway over 30 cars again. The SOTS is the ''TOP'' Top Sportsman Organization. With over 80 members now, the SOTS are on the move!!
“Our members are very loyal and supportive of our organization”, said Pitts (aka The Godfather of Top Sportsman Racing). “This year our members have really reached to new heights & goals. We have some of the best caliber of race cars in our organization. Tim McAmis, Jerry Haas, Jerry Bickel, Rick Jones are just a few of the professionally built cars that our members own. Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman back on top at Richmond
7-20-2011) SANDSTON, VA – The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman (SOTS), the hottest Top Sportsman Organization, visited Richmond Dragway on July 16, 2011. With 32 cars making the 32 car field, the SOTS put on another great race and show at Richmond Dragway. “We were expecting many more cars but some of our guys are on vacations and some are getting their motors freshened-up,” said SOTS President Gary Pitts.
The # 1 Qualifier was Greg Bruce in his Tim McAmis-built '68 Camaro with a 4.51@156.09. The race winner was Jerry Williams in his beautiful sleek red Monte Carlo. Jerry Williams last year’s champion has vowed to get on a roll and regain his championship form that made him the SOTS Champion. “Racing with this group of guys is the best fun I've had in years! This is a classy organization, ran by good racers with great race tracks to race at,” said Williams.
The runner up was Jamie Hester in his Chevy Lumina.
The SOTS is now headed to VMP on July 31, 2011.
